SPOKANE, WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – At least 700 structures have been destroyed by three wildfires near Spokane, prompting authorities to issue evacuation orders for approximately 67,000 residents. Since Saturday, the Old Trails, Autumn Lane, and Fairview fires have scorched over 8,000 acres. As of Monday night, officials reported no fatalities or serious injuries. Over 1,000 firefighters remain engaged in combating the flames and safeguarding neighborhoods in Spokane County. Fire management teams classified the incident among the nation’s most critical wildfire responses.

Spokane wildfires force mass evacuations as crews defend homes and public infrastructure.

Harsh winds combined with dry vegetation accelerated the spread of the fires from open land into populated districts on Spokane’s northern border. The Old Trails Fire crossed the Spokane River and reached northwest neighborhoods within hours of ignition. Residential, commercial, and utility infrastructure across multiple communities suffered damage from the flames. Infrared assessments suggest hundreds of additional structures could be affected, though officials have yet to confirm these figures. Smoke from the fires has blanketed Spokane, reducing visibility near active fire zones.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies detained 37-year-old Aaron F. Farinacci on suspicion of first-degree arson Monday. Investigators have linked this arrest exclusively to the Old Trails Fire, which ignited near Old Trails Road and Euclid Avenue. The court will decide on the charges, and the arrest does not constitute proof of guilt. Investigators continue to look into the origins of the Autumn Lane and Fairview fires. No further arrests have been reported related to these incidents in the Spokane area.

    Spokane County expands evacuation zones

Large portions of northern and northwestern Spokane, as well as nearby communities throughout the county, are under evacuation orders. As the emergency situation intensified, officials relocated patients from the Mann-Grandstaff Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Spokane activated its convention center to serve as a shelter for displaced residents and their pets. Local organizations provided food, water, and basic supplies. Additionally, authorities coordinated emergency childcare, road closures, and public communication services for those affected.

Governor Bob Ferguson of Washington declared a statewide emergency and authorized the activation of the National Guard to assist as the fires continued to threaten eastern Washington. This declaration facilitated inter-agency coordination of personnel, equipment, and emergency aid across impacted counties. A statewide burn ban remains in effect amid extreme heat and drought conditions. Resources from multiple agencies and external firefighting teams have been mobilized, with officials also requesting federal assistance as demand for firefighting efforts surges across the Pacific Northwest.

Fire crews focus on protecting homes and vital infrastructure

Washington State Department of Natural Resources has joined forces with local and federal units to manage the Spokane Complex response. Aircraft have been dropping retardant, while ground teams deploy engines, hand lines, and heavy machinery near at-risk properties. Efforts also include safeguarding roads, power lines, hospitals, and water supply facilities. As of Monday, fire managers reported no containment around the three Spokane-area fires. Road closures and restrictions at Riverside and Mount Spokane state parks remain in place.

The fires have disrupted power supplies, leaving thousands without electricity in the initial days of the emergency. Utility crews have been working to restore power where conditions permit, while emergency teams maintain closures in hazardous areas. Residents are urged to adhere to evacuation notices and refrain from operating drones near firefighting aircraft. Fire officials continue updating maps and alerts as fire boundaries shift. Damage assessment teams are surveying burned neighborhoods and verifying property losses before releasing detailed figures.

Eurozone Manufacturing Surges to 52-Month Peak Despite Weak Demand

    Business August 5, 2026

Eurozone manufacturing output accelerated in July while new orders and exports stayed weak. The survey’s output index climbed from 51.7 to 52.9, reaching its highest point since March 2022. While production accelerated faster than overall manufacturing activity, companies primarily relied on work from previous months. New orders grew only marginally and lagged behind the pace of production, with exports declining once more. The downturn in France, Spain, Italy, and Austria outweighed gains elsewhere in the euro area. Consequently, the increase in July’s production was largely driven by existing order backlogs. Factories worked through unfinished orders at the fastest rate since January, as they completed existing commitments. This reduction in backlogs helped sustain output even amid weak new demand. Additionally, manufacturers cut employment once again in July, extending a period of job reductions across the sector. Companies continued to carefully manage staffing levels amid limited order growth. Business confidence improved to its highest level since February, although it remained below the long-term average among eurozone goods producers. Demand growth lags behind production increases Persistent exports continued to be a major obstacle to manufacturing recovery. Several large eurozone economies reported fewer orders from international clients. Gains in other markets were not enough to offset those declines. As a result, domestic and export demand together yielded only a slight increase in total new work. These figures contrasted with the stronger rise in output and the quicker reduction in outstanding orders. Factories entered the third quarter with higher production levels than new
