ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan petrol prices increased once again on October 6 following the daily fuel rate revision. The cost of petrol rose by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. In contrast, high-speed diesel declined by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest adjustment was made after an October 3 decision that raised both key transportation fuels. That earlier move set petrol at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol climbed Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel increased Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that the review reflected fluctuations in international fuel prices. The calculation for pricing incorporates international market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs. These factors remain central to Pakistan’s fuel review process. The increase on October 3 served as the immediate reference point for the subsequent revision on October 6.
The decision on October 6 added Rs0.88 to petrol, bringing the new rate from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Conversely, high-speed diesel reversed its previous increase, dropping from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to levy taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
Daily Fuel Price Adjustments Driven by Global Market Trends
Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing system starting in July, replacing the weekly review cycle that began in March. This new approach directly links domestic fuel prices to movements in international markets and other relevant inputs. Previously, fuel prices were typically reviewed less frequently. The current system allows for separate price changes for petrol and diesel on the same day, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel decreased.
Despite recent fluctuations, fuel prices are still below the peaks recorded earlier this year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel hit Rs520.35. In the first week of March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, and diesel was approximately Rs281 per litre before their respective climbs. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April peak, and diesel is Rs122.59 lower than its maximum. Both fuels have significantly declined from their highest levels earlier this year.
Petrol Gains, Diesel Declines Following October 3 Price Adjustment
Petrol is a primary fuel for private transportation in Pakistan, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws. High-speed diesel, on the other hand, fuels heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. These two fuels serve different sectors of the country’s energy and transport needs. Both are also Pakistan’s leading petroleum products by sales volume, with recent price revisions causing divergent movements. On October 3, both prices increased, but on October 6, petrol advanced while diesel saw a reduction.
For October 6, the current petrol rate is Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is Rs397.76. These rates replace the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. Petrol has gained Rs0.88 since that review, whereas diesel has decreased Rs1.88. These figures continue the pattern of frequent daily adjustments observed throughout October. Motorists and commercial entities are now subject to these revised rates for the current period.
