BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin on Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The agenda centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in economic and developmental sectors, alongside regional and global issues, diplomacy, peace efforts, and international security. This meeting took place during President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

The two officials explored avenues to deepen their strategic partnership and enhance collaboration across multiple domains. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that UAE-Germany relations are robust and resilient, with ongoing progress in cooperation. He highlighted a mutual dedication to building upon past achievements and fostering sustainable economic growth. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah shared perspectives on common interests and diplomatic strategies to resolve crises.

This broader state visit introduced a new framework for bilateral relations. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first state visit by a UAE president to Germany. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and both leaders unveiled a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform encompasses security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture, and education sectors.

Enhanced strategic dialogue promotes expanded bilateral collaboration

Both governments supported initiatives to establish a German-UAE Investment Council aimed at bolstering engagement between public and private sectors. They also welcomed the resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and the positive outcomes from a bilateral business forum. The visit resulted in the signing of 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as detailed in the joint declaration. An investment package from the UAE worth 40 billion euros in Germany was also announced.

The scope of economic cooperation extends into the energy sector, advanced technologies, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration underscored ongoing and future projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for establishing advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Artificial intelligence and emerging innovations were identified as key areas of shared interest within their expanded partnership.

Diplomacy and regional stability addressed by foreign ministers

During their Berlin discussions, the foreign ministers examined developments across regional and global landscapes. They emphasized intensified international efforts to promote lasting peace, stability, and the safeguarding of global security. The talks highlighted diplomatic solutions to crises, echoing themes from the state visit. The German government also listed Middle East peace and stability as priority topics for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their discussions integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development within the bilateral framework. The state visit further connected these talks with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific cooperation. These Berlin meetings represent the latest chapter in the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has been ongoing since 2004.
