EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have initiated a five-year wheat procurement agreement valued at up to US$500 million. This deal transitions a 2023 financing setup into an operational import plan for Egypt. Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC using funding from the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The pact formalizes the process for purchases within that existing financial framework.
The agreement was signed at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also heads GASC, present at the event. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, was also in attendance. The statement did not specify the wheat quantities, shipment schedules, sources, or the pricing mechanism for acquisitions under this contract.
The financing arrangement traces back to August 2023 when ADEX and Egyptian authorities established a revolving program for wheat imports. ADEX allocated US$100 million for this program, with renewals each year over five years, potentially reaching US$500 million in total. Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance collaborated with GASC in that initial framework. The 2026 supply agreement now provides the operational structure for GASC’s wheat purchases from Al Dahra through this financing plan.
Implementation of the 2023 financing plan
ADEX functions as the export financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting funding linked to purchases from Emirati exporters. In 2023, the office indicated that its Egypt facility would finance wheat and other key commodities supplied via Al Dahra. The financing plan established a five-year structure for these transactions with GASC. The current agreement preserves that structure while setting the operational conditions for Al Dahra’s imported wheat deliveries.
Al Dahra has been active in Egypt since 2007, operating agricultural projects in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported farming approximately 28,000 hectares within the country. Over the past three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. This week, Al Dahra announced that its broader agricultural platform now reaches over 40 markets worldwide.
Al Dahra’s operations in Egypt since 2007
While the August 2026 agreement focuses on imported wheat, Al Dahra also produces agricultural commodities domestically. In 2023, it identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with around 85% of its Egyptian farm output entering the local market. The new accord pertains specifically to imported wheat supplied to GASC under the ADEX program, rather than a separate US$500 million financing deal.
This five-year agreement formalizes the financing arrangement announced three years ago, replacing the need for a second US$500 million facility. Neither Al Dahra nor GASC has disclosed the total wheat tonnage covered by this agreement, nor have they provided details regarding annual shipment schedules, supplier origins, or transaction pricing formulas. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the arrangement remains a five-year wheat supply program valued at up to US$500 million under ADEX financing.
